Surface Solutions

So much has changed in the benchtop space recently with new legislation banning engineered stone.

BUT there has always been so much choice in the area… lets take a look at the options out there and some of our tried and tested favourites.

Stainless Steel

The work horse material of the bunch…

Practical, durable, recyclable, food safe, heat safe there is a reason why its the choice for commercial kitchens.

Personally we love it, whilst that first scratch hurts, the patina and character that develops over time with use is unique. The benefits of heat resistance, zero porousity and minor maintenance makes this high on our list and the reason why we have used this in several of our projects.

Porcelain

I am so excited to use this in our own home. The technology in fabrication of this material has come a long way, its high performing - heat tolerant, non porous, scratch resistant and comes with the beautiful aesthetics of stone. All of this is done with sustainability in mind - no nasty chemicals or resins are used in the manufacturing process.

Due to developments with this product, it can come in a variety of sizes and widths, meaning that it is not only a benchtop solution but can be used to make bespoke joinery, basins and flooring and walling options.

Hardwood

The natural beauty of wood is something that we love at Stealth, on walls, doors, ceilings and benchtops.

At Stealth Farmhouse we worked with a local cabinet maker who sourced these incredible slabs of marri for our bathrooms. Instantly adding warmth and texture. Like stainless steel I love that it will patina over time and that the material is fully sustainable.

Laminate

Cost effective and variety of choice make this product well sort after. Timber, metallic and an aray of colours provide endless choice.

We have used this in our laundries in the past, pairing with a ply edging to elevate the look. Its worked well in this area as its water and scratch resistant and don’t need to contend with issues with heat as you would in a kitchen.

Natural Stone

Well loved and timeless the natural beauty of stone is remarkable. Its unique and bespoke and is the go to choice for many. Yes can be more expensive than other options but the beauty of it often wins out.

Although the material is porous, a sealant can be applied, however care must be taken to avoid discolouration from oils, acidic foods, red wine etc.

Tiles

This trend is really of the moment, giving almost retro vibes. It adds so much character and texture to a kitchen.

Its definitely more aesthetics rather than function, make sure you use a high quality grout and take care to avoid chips.
