The Journey So Far...

Updated: Aug 8, 2024

Hi, we are Alesha & Brett and I thought it was about time that we shared a bit about our journey and importantly where we are headed and how we can help you.

The last 8 years we have funded our lifestyle through building and renovating properties in a beautiful little pocket of WA known as the Margaret River wine region. We wanted to live differently. Having the flexibility of time and working to our own rhythm was really important to us after working in our careers.

We wanted to do work that inspired us creatively, provided an income for our family that allowed us to travel when we wanted and to be available for our kids whilst they were little. Design and property was always in our DNA, Bretts background is in real estate and I spent over a decade working in fashion both in Australia and overseas. But it wasn’t until Brett suffered burnout from running his business and our second child was on the way that it sparked us to deeply consider what was important and how we wanted to live our life.

A change of scenery...

So we decided to move to the country, to Yallingup in the beautiful south west of WA, three hours from Perth. Best decision we have made, but one that also came with a host of challenges. We craved for a slower life, rural living and connection to the outdoors.

But a slower life did not happen... We continued to renovate and build several projects, raise two children without the support of family close by and also decided to embark on a life changing adventure - setting off in our caravan (with 2 kids under 4 - what were we thinking!?) to tour Australia.

It was exhausting, fun, joyful, challenging, stressful, engaging, peaceful, hectic, scary yet bounded with optimism - absolutely all the things.

What we learned - having the courage to live differently has sparked a much more enriching life for us. We are not bound by a 9-5, we can freely travel to Perth to see family whenever we want. We don’t miss out on helping out at school excursions whilst the kids are little (and still want us around). We have spent 14 months over the last three years touring Australia, seeing all the sights and giving our kids the experiences of a lifetime. No they might not remember everything, but thats not the point - the experience, resilience, making new friendships then saying goodbye has already shaped them and is something that has imprinted on all our lives.

So what is coming up and why now?

Well, honestly I feel like for the first time since we started this journey I have the space and energy to GIVE more. I want to offer our insights and experience based on years of designing, project managing, renovating and developing some epic homes.

"We want to help you to design and build your ultimate farmhouse and also inspire you to live a life on your own terms."

So how can we help you?

Build your own custom farmhouse

We work with a small number of clients each year to bring their vision of ultimate farmhouse to life. Offering full design and working drawings as well as interior design.

Thats ok - we are glad you are here for it! We have something for you too as we film house tours and get behind the scenes of our Black Barn build. Its going to be an honest representation of building a modern farmhouse - I don’t know what will happen but I’m sure it will be funny, stressful and insightful.

So I don't know if we are slowing down but we are definitely being more mindful with how we spend out time and what we do with it.

We are putting ourselves out there, sharing some more about us (stay tuned for an interview we filmed with Josh Ball) about what inspires us to do the work and live the life we want.

I'm glad you're here for the journey and I hope we can help you on yours.
